Department Services

The Public Works & Highway Department maintains 151 miles of scenic roads in the Town of Rome.  The Highway Department fulfills its responsibilities to maintain the safety and convenience of Town roads by performing both general and winter maintenance.

General maintenance includes the following:  patching, shoulder maintenance, vegetation control, signing, and traffic control.  Winter maintenance includes the application of sand and salt, plowing and shoveling snow.

Additionally, the department also oversees the Transfer Site, all Town parks, Dyracuse Recreational Area, Spring Branch and New Rome Cemeteries and the Rome Town Center.

2022-2026

2022

  • Replace culvert, 4” Base course, pulverize and pave 2.5” 9th Ave from Akron Drive to CTH D; project Length – 1.0 miles Estimated $250,000.00
  • Base course, pulverize and pave Squire Court. Project Length  - .2 miles. Estimated $38,000.00
  • Base course, pulverize and pave East Court. Project Length  - .3 miles. Estimated $65,000.00
  • Base course, pulverize and pave Lilac Trail. Project Length  - .3 miles. Estimated $63,000.00
  • Crack fill and chip seal. Twin Lakes Trail and 16th Ave. Project Length - 1.2 miles. Estimated $30,000.00
  • Continue work with neighboring municipalities & County on improved drainage methods along Town roads
  • Maintain gravel roads with grading and overlay of materials where necessary
  • Complete routine maintenance on Town roads, including wedging sinkholes as needed on Town roads

Total road improvement – 4.2 miles. Estimated cost of $446,000.00

2023

  • Base course, pulverize and pave Meadow Lane from Badger Ave to Campfire Rd  - .45 miles
  • Base course, pulverize and pave Campfire Rd from Meadow Lane to CTH Z  - .1 miles
  • Resurface Canterbury Court from termini to West Queens Way  - .2 miles
  • Base course, pulverize and pave Locust Trl from 15th Ave to Termini - .25 miles
  • Base course, pulverize and pave Apache Circle from 13th Ave to termini - .70 miles
  • Chip Seal Juniper Trl, Magnolia Trl, 17th Dr from 17th Ave to Badger Ave, Westwind Trl, Salisbury Ct, Kings Herald Ct, Iverness Ct, Gifford Ct, Axminister Ct
  • Work with neighboring municipalities & County on improved drainage methods

  • Base course, pulverize and pave Archer Ave from 15th Avenue to CTH Z

  • Continue work with neighboring municipalities & County on improved drainage methods along Town roads

  • Base course, pulverize and pave Aldwich Ct from Apache Ave to termini
  • Base course, pulverize and pave Highland Place and 16th Lane
  • Chip Sealing and crack filling
  • Work with neighboring municipalities & County on improved drainage methods along Town roads
  • Maintain gravel roads with grading and overlay of materials where necessary
  • Complete routine maintenance on Town roads, including wedging sinkholes as needed on Town roads
