The Town of Rome is considered to be at “very high” risk of damage to homes and property from wildfire. As part of the Town’s plan to reduce the risk we are partnering with the Department of Natural Resources to offer curbside brush pick-up in the Town. The goal is to make it easier for you to reduce the amount of fuel for a fire on your property by making it easier for you to dispose of dead trees and brush. The curbside collection is NOT intended for clearing property for a new home. If you hire a contractor to assist with brush removal, they must haul it to the Transfer Site.
Project Guidelines
- The Town will make only one pass down your road. Any additional material you add after that will not be picked up and will be your responsibility.
- No single branch, limb or tree can be greater than 12 inches in diameter or 10 feet in length.
- Your brush must be stacked with the cut end at the edge of the road in front of your residence or lot.
- Please use care to pile your brush where it can be easily reached from the road with equipment but is still off the pavement. Clear a 5-foot area around pile.
- Combine brush piles with neighbors if possible.
- Please refer to the Dead Brush & Timber ordinance for further guidance on clearing dead, down or diseased timber, https://ecode360.com/34011525.
